"Arizona's Energy Future"
Preparations are underway for the fall Town Hall where participants will tackle the issue of energy. Energy sources, regulation, the energy economy and how best to plan for the future are just some of the issues that will be addressed. The background report has been prepared by Arizona State University under the guidance of Clark Miller, Associate Director, Center for Nanotechnology in Society at Arizona State University. Monday's lunch panel presentation is: Key Facts You Need to Know presented by the Authors of the 99th Arizona Town Hall Background Report.
Monday's dinner speaker is Elisabeth Graffy of the University of Wisconsin-Madison whose research focuses on energy and society. Previously, she helped establish the Center for Science and Decisions in the new Energy Mission Area of the U.S. Geological Survey, served as Coordinator for Environmental Indicators in the Department of the Interior, National Policy Advisor to the USGS National Water-Quality Assessment Program, and Environmental Policy Analyst for the U.S. Congress Office of Technology Assessment. Prior to federal service, Dr. Graffy worked on sustainable development in international and state contexts, including directing refugee relief in Somalia and mediating access to credit for American farmers seeking to adopt innovative practices.
Attending a Town Hall: Participation in Arizona Town Halls, held twice a year in the fall and spring, is by invitation only. If you are interested in attending this Town Hall, or a future one, please complete and submit an application form or contact the Arizona Town Hall office. You may also contact a Board Member, and ask that they recommend you.
Date & Attendance Requirements: November 6-9, 2011. Attendees must block out on their calendars the entire period from Sunday evening to midday Wednesday. Active participation by each participant throughout the entire process is essential. The concluding plenary session on Wednesday morning is a critical phase of the Town Hall process during which the participants finalize their report and recommendations. This session should end by 12:30 p.m. However, it has occasionally gone beyond that time.
Cost: In addition to the costs of your meals and lodging during the Town Hall (approximately $800), there is a registration fee of $255 for individuals who are current (2011) Arizona Town Hall members, and $355 for non-members, which is due by October 21, 2011.
Activities: Participants spend the bulk of their time participating in facilitated discussions designed to build consensus for future action. During meal breaks, participants will hear from nationally-recognized speakers on the issues being debated.

Background Materials: Extensive background materials have been prepared by Arizona State University in conjunction with the Town Hall Research Committee. These materials will be mailed to all registered participants for review prior to the Town Hall.
